State to table resolution on Polavaram in Assembly

The State government will table a resolution on Polavaram project in the ongoing Assembly session on Monday, said Irrigation Minister Devineni Umamaheswara Rao.

The Minister inaugurated irrigation building here on Sunday and held a review meeting with officials. He said that the resolution would lay emphasis on issues such as protecting interests of people who would be displaced due the project, merger of few mandals in Khammam in AP, and urging the Centre to expedite release of funds, etc.

A high-level meeting between Telangana and Andhra Pradesh governments has decided to release 10 TMC water to Krishna Delta. The water would be released on June 25 from Nagarjunasagar, he said. Pending works like erection of crest gates on Pulichintala project would be completed soon.

Top priorities

The Minister said that the government top priority was drinking and irrigation waters. An action plan would be prepared to speed up completion of the pending projects. A field inspection of all projects would be taken up in a fortnight, he said.

The Minister also paid tributes to Mahatma Gandhi, Sri Arthur Cotton, and K.L. Rao.

Excise Minister Kollu Ravindra, Jaggaiahpeta Eluru MP Maganti Venkateswara Rao, MLC Boddu Nageswara Rao, MLA Sriram Rajagopal, Krishna district Collector M. Raghunandan Rao, Principal Secretary Irrigation Adityanath Das, Engineer-in-Chief M. Venkateswara Rao, and others were present.
