Kapu leader and former Minister Mudragada Padmanabham said here on Wednesday his community did not get independence even after two decades of struggle for reservations and the State government was postponing its decision on the issue. He was participating in a protest with black boards by the Kapu JAC leaders and supporters.

When he was stopped from leaving his house again on the 22nd day, he told the police that the Chief Minister was treating the community as slaves. “You [CM] are treating us as a slave community. The police are acting like the henchmen of the government in suppressing our yatra and treating us like terrorists.” He said the police were coming everyday in large number and surrounding them when they try to take out padayatra. This reflected the times under the British regime. He asked the police to introspect on their duties in Kirlampudi. The community wanted to conduct padayatra by imposing self-restrictions and under the provisions of the Constitution.

Mr. Padmanabham said the day would come soon when Kapus would revolt against the TDP government.
