The State government is seriously considering grant of essential service status to the Information Technology industry to avoid inconvenience it faces during bandhs and agitations.
Chief Minister K. Rosaiah said that the government was seized of the need to provide a better atmosphere to the IT industry and the matter had been referred to the Law Department for examining the issues involved.
“There has been a suggestion to enact legislation declaring the IT industry as an essential service industry,” he added.
Mr. Rosaiah was responding to queries by representatives of industry during an interactive session organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) here on Saturday. Responding to a query on the uncertainty prevailing in the State over the past few months, Mr. Rosaiah said though the disturbances had come down to a large extent, “agitations continuing here and there are causing anxiety.”
Responding to a query, he said the government was keen on announcing the new industrial policy 2010-15, incorporating several incentives to attract industry before the month-end.
He accepted the request for announcing a separate policy for IT industry and expressed willingness to examine a request for coming out with ‘knowledge policy' with the help of the CII.
