State-level meet of ryots in Kakinada from July 10

Conference will seek return of farm lands acquired for SEZs

The annual State-level conference of the Andhra Pradesh Rythu Sangham (APRS) will be held in the city for three days from July 10.

Announcing this at a press conference here on Saturday, vice-president of the Sangham’s State unit P. Narasimha Rao said that the meet would demand that the government return the farm lands acquired for the special economic zones (SEZs) and other industrial units, as the lands remained vacant even after 10 years of the acquisition.

“Agrarian crisis is looming large in the national-level and the farmers from Andhra Pradesh too are reeling under a slew of problems. We are going to have a detailed discussion on these problems and come out with a plan of action,” he said.

Referring to the day-to-day schedule, Mr. Rao said that farmers from different parts of the district would stage a demonstration in the city on July 10, which would be culminated in Balaji Cheruvu Junction where a public meeting would be conducted.

General secretary of the All India Kisan Sabha Hannan Mollah, secretary Viju Krishnan, CPI (M) State leader P. Madhu, MLC Ramu Surya Rao would address the farmers.

The representatives meet would be held at Suryakala Mandiram Auditorium for two days from July 11, which would be inaugurated by eminent journalist and the winner of Ramon Magsaysay Award Palagummi Sainath. Agrarian expert Madhura Swaminathan would address the representatives at the valedictory session.

District committee leaders of the CPI (M) T. Nageswara Rao, Duvva Seshu Babji and Palivela Veerababu were present.
