: Mustaq Ahmed, a soldier, belonging to Parnapalli village in Bandi Atmakur mandal in Kurnool, who was killed when an Indian base camp was struck by an avalanche in the Siachen glacier in Jammu and Kashmir, will be accorded a State funeral, according to Nandyal Revenue Divisional Officer Sudhakar Reddy.
The soldier’s body was expected to reach his native village on Thursday, the RDO told newsmen at Nandyal. Mr. Sudhakar Reddy said he would attend and pay homage on behalf of the State Government and the body would be cremated with police honours.
Mustaq Ahmed, who hailed from an agriculturist’s family, studied up to Intermediate and joined the Madras Regiment in the Army 12 years ago. He is survived by parents, wife Nazeemunnisa and a six-month-old son. Mustaq Ahmed went on the call of duty to the Siachen glacier when his son was 15 days old. He planned to return home in June, before the Ramzan festival, and construct a house in a house site owned by him, his brothers Muneer Ahmed, Muzaffar Ahmed and Maqbool Ahmed said. Mustaq’s death left the family in a pall of gloom.
