YSR Congress leader Ananta Venkatrami Reddy has accused the government of sabotaging the ‘Kapu movement’ by “staging” the Tuni incident a few months ago.

Speaking to the media along with party’s Uravakonda MLA Y. Visveswar Reddy here on Saturday, Mr. Venkatrami Reddy charged Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu with “masterminding” the attack on the train in Tuni with the aim of implicating the opposition parties, primarily the YSR Congress.

‘Undemocratic’

“Why are you afraid of Mudragada Padmanabham?” he question Mr. Naidu, and stated: “After all, he is fighting for the cause of his community and demanding in a democratic way that you honour the promises made to the community.”

Mr. Venkatrami Reddy said that the two-year rule of the TDP government was reflective of the “undemocratic values” that Mr. Naidu held on to. Taking potshots at the Chief Minister, he said: “You accuse Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy of being behind the Tuni incident. Was he also behind the decision to include him in the then TDP cabinet?” Referring to the alleged directive of the government to the MSOs to block the ‘Sakshi’ channel, Mr. Venkatrami Reddy said that it was only reflective of Mr. Naidu’s “dictatorial nature” and lack of belief in democracy and basic tenets of the Constitution.

‘Why detain opposition leaders?’

Mr. Visveswar Reddy sought to know the rationale behind the government “detaining” opposition party leaders, who were on their way to meet Mr. Padmanabham, in the Rajahmundry airport itself.

“There is only one opposition party in the State and it has the responsibility of knowing about the genuine concerns of the Kapu community. It is but our duty to visit the affected lot when the government is behaving in an undemocratic way,” said Mr. Visvesvar Reddy.
