July 21, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 06:06 am IST - RAJAMAHENDRAVARAM:

The A.P. State Human Rights Commission has issued a notice to East Godavari District Collector H. Arun Kumar following a petition filed by president of the Andhra Pradesh Civil Liberties Association M. Subba Rao stating that 20 persons, who had been injured in the stampede during the Godavari Pushkarams in 2015, had not received the ex gratia announced by the State and Central governments so far.

Mr. Subba Rao said that while the State government announced an ex gratia of Rs. 25,000, the Central government announced Rs. 50,000 for severely injured persons.

After police verification, the Sub-Collector mentioned in his report that 20 out of 51 persons injured in the stampede did not receive the compensation.

Those who had been provided treatment in private hospitals too did not get any compensation.

The Commission asked the Collector to submit a report with full details before September 13.
