Stalemate continues over Chittoor TDP chief post

May 22, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:55 am IST - CHITTOOR:

The stalemate over the announcement of Chittoor district Telugu Desam Party president is on, three days after its mini-mahanadu.

TDP president and Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has picked up two leaders-- party's district ad hoc committee convener Gownivari Srinivasulu and senior TDP leader Gali Muddukrishnama Naidu --as the MLC candidates under the Governor’s and local bodies’ quotas.

This development initially led to speculation that Pulivarthy Nani, whose name figured during the party’s general body meeting, would be appointed as the district president, as Mr. Srinivasulu was set to become an MLC.

Meanwhile, some senior party leaders maintain that Mr. Naidu is keen on making Mr. Srinivasulu as the district president as in his capacity as the MLC, he would have more access to government machinery due to protocol formalities. Earlier, the TDP chief followed this trend making N. Amarnatha Reddy, then Punganur TDP MLA, as the party's district president. Now, Mr. Reddy is with the YSR Congress from Palamaner constituency.
