Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Thursday said that the proposed Bhavanapadu port would spur economic activity in Srikakulam district and ensure huge cargo handling due to its proximity to many States, including Chhattisgarh and Odisha.

The Chief Minister was interacting with the public representatives and locals of Bhavanapadu here to explain them the advantages the port would bring to the State.

He said that the “anti-industry” tag was not good for the development of the district.

Labour Minister K. Atchennaidu, Palasa MLA Gowthu Shyam Sundar Shivaji, and MP K. Rammohan explained the situation at the grassroots level and urged the Chief Minister to ensure the best rehabilitation package for those who surrender their lands for the project.

Mr. Naidu promised to adopt the land pooling system for acquiring land for the construction of the sea port.

Temple tourism

Earlier, the Chief Minister visited Sri Suryanarayana Swamy temple at Arasavilli, where was welcomed with a ‘purnakumbham’.

Priests performed special prayers and explained the Chief Minister the importance of the temple.

Later, Mr. Naidu enquired with officials of the Endowments Department about the status of the master plan approved long ago for the development of the historic temple.

He said that tourism would get a fillip if temples such as Arasavilli, Srikurmam, and Srimukhalingam were developed.

Mr. Naidu also said that circuit tourism could be promoted as Srikakulam had 192-km-long sea coast.

The Chief Minister left for Vizianagaram district at around 1.20 p.m.

TDP leaders expressed happiness over Mr. Naidu’s “successful” tour of the district.
