The speakers at a literary convention held in honour of legendary poet Sri Sri remembered him as a harbinger of a new progressive poetic trend in Telugu literature.
A host of literary personalities and people from various walks of life participated in the convention organised by Jayamithra, a literary and cultural organisation, as part of the yearlong Sri Sri birth centenary celebrations.
Speaking on the topic “Sahithyodyamalu-Sri Sri”, noted revolutionary writer Varavara Rao said, “Sri Sri championed the cause of democratic values through his spirited literary crusade”. He penned his poems fearlessly against fascist and dictatorial tendencies, which provided an impetus to the mass movements, he recalled.
Speaking on the theme “Sri Sri Yugama – Prajaswamya Sahitya Yugama”, eminent poet and literary critic Nikileshwar said that Sri Sri left behind a rich legacy of poetry which would remain eternal in the annals of Telugu literature.
Jayamithra general secretary Venu Sankoju said that the monthly
literary conventions were being organised by involving eminent
personalities as part of Sri Sri birth anniversary celebrations to remember and draw inspiration from the outstanding literary works of Sri Sri.
Multi-linguist Nomula Satyanarayana presided over the convention. Jayamithra convener B Yadaiah and others were present.
