Director General of Police B. Prasada Rao has said that the administration was concerned about Naxalite activity picking up in separate Telangana because of the leadership of CPI (Maoist).

In an informal chat with media persons here on Wednesday, Mr. Rao said Naxalites were not active in the State presently, barring north-coastal districts of Srikakulam, Visakhapatnam and East and West Godavari. “There are some apprehensions that the Maoist cadre and leaders who mostly belonged to north Telangana districts could return to the region if the region got Statehood.”

The issue also figured in the meetings of the Central government-appointed Task Force that toured the State recently. The delegation broadly deliberated the distribution of police force.
