Sports subject to be made mandatory in schools

Government to unveil new sports policy soon

The new sports policy, which will be unveiled by the government shortly, will make sports subject with conduct of classes for specific hours, mandatory for all schools in the State with a substantial increase in sanctioned posts of coaches and other required staff.

The policy also provides for construction of mini-stadia all over the State with tracks and facilities to conduct indoor games and cultural programmes.

Minister for Sports Vatti Vasant Kumar told presspersons here on Monday that sports would be promoted from school level itself hereafter by properly utilising the services of the existing physical education teachers and such other staff.

The budget for sports activity would be enhanced substantially to extend financial assistance to sports associations, sports quota in educational institutions and government jobs. Besides, more sports and disciplines would be considered for cash incentive by the government.

To focus on SAAP

The Chief Minister agreed to solve all the problems faced by the Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh and provide necessary infrastructure for AP Sports School at Hakimpet near here, regional sports schools at Kadapa and Karimnagar and regional sports hostels at Guntur, Tirupati and Warangal.
