Nephroplus, the dialysis service providers, is organising a ‘Dialysis Olympiad-2015’ on February 15 that will provide a platform for dialysis patients to participate in a slew of sporting activities.
The event is being held to celebrate World Kidney Day, which is on Thursday, February 12 and also the five-year anniversary of Nephroplus. Over 500 kidney patients from across India are expected to participate.
The dialysis network is also looking to expand further in the coming five years with 200 more centres, of which at least 30 to be set up in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. To mark the anniversary, Nephroplus officials said that they will also start providing peritoneal dialysis and pain free dialysis services wherein the traditional needles will be replaced by imported needles that have blunt tips to give patients a pain free experience while they undergo dialysis.
“The sporting event is to build self-confidence among dialysis patients that all is not lost. Patients can lead a normal life like they can swim, exercise, work and have fun. We will have sporting competitions like swimming, running, volleyball, carom and badminton,” said co-founder and Patient Services Director Kamal D. Shah.
The event, which will be held at Kotla Vijay Bhaskar Reddy Stadium, Yousufguda will have 50 and 100 meters sprint, walkathon, long jump, chess, badminton, table tennis, Sudoku, cycling and caroms. The competitions are free and open for all persons who are on dialysis. They can visit the Facebook page of Nephroplus or register at www.nephroplus.com before February 13.
