‘Quick implementation of the decision only solution to stirs’
Even as nine Ministers from the Seemandhra region in the Union Cabinet have indicated about quitting their posts if the Congress/UPA-II regime went ahead with the creation of Telangana, the Ministers of Kiran Kumar Reddy Cabinet belonging to the Telangana region met Antony Committee here on Monday and sought a speedy process for creation of the new State.
Later talking to The Hindu, Information Technology Minister Ponnala Lakshmaiah said the Telangana delegation told the committee that there was no question of compromise on Hyderabad and it should be the capital of Telangana after 10 years.
Similarly, the sharing of Krishna/Godavari waters had already been worked out and there need not be any apprehension in the Seemandhra region.
When the committee asked him to give suggestion to contain stirs in the Seemandhra region, the Minister claimed that he had told the committee that immediate implementation of the decision to create Telangana would be the only solution.
It is learnt that the Telangana Congress leaders reiterated that there was no question of accepting Hyderabad as the permanent joint capital (instead of 10 years as proposed by the Congress Working Committee), and even in the 10 years as joint capital, the jurisdiction of Hyderabad city should be restricted only to the municipal and revenue limits of the existing city.
The limits of Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation should not apply to the joint capital theory, they made it clear to the committee.
Greater Hyderabad includes parts of the districts of Rangareddy, Medak, Mahabubnagar and Nalgonda.
Meanwhile, a meeting of Seemandhra Ministers in the Union Cabinet and Members of Parliament, which was held at the Parliament complex, decided to meet the panel here on Tuesday reiterating their stand against creation of Telangana.
