Srikakulam police department is keen to prevent human trafficking from the district as miscreants reportedly targeted the kids of poor people for commercial exploitation. It has set up an exclusive wing for the protection of children particularly those aged between 11 and 15 as they could be easily enticed with money and gifts.

Failure of exams, ill-treatment, poverty and other reasons make many children to leave the homes. Many youngsters are missing parental care with the migration of both mother and father in many places.

It was observed that many children have left homes recently, causing concern among the family members. It has become a big challenge for the police department to trace them as miscreants reportedly changing the names of the children to prevent their immediate identity. SP A.S. Khan told The Hind that the department had taken up awareness camp throughout the district to prevent missing cases. “Both parents and teachers should explain children how to behave with strangers. They should also know the consequences and harassment if they leave homes for trivial issues,” he said. “We are giving publicity to important phone numbers of top police officials so that the children and others can call immediately call when they are in trouble,” he added.
