Union Minister M. Venkaiah Naidu and Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu are responsible for denial of special category status to Andhra Pradesh, CPI State secretary K. Ramakrishna has said.
Mr. Venkaiah Naidu should not be re-nominated to the Rajya Sabha from the State, Mr. Ramakrishna told the media here on Saturday.
Mr. Venkaiah Naidu demanded SCS for the State for 10 years when former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh promised it for five years before bifurcation, but was silent when the NDA Government announced in Parliament that the State would not be given SCS, Mr. Ramakrishna said. It exposed the double-standards of Mr. Venkaiah Naidu, he said.
While Union Minister of State for Home H. Chowdary claimed that the Centre was fulfilling the promises made in the A.P. Reorganisation Act, Mr. Chandrababu Naidu was speaking to the contrary, leaving the people confused, he said.
The Left parties would meet in Vijayawada on May 1 to chalk out an action programme on the issue, he added.
The CPI would organise a roundtable in Vijayawada on May 2 to formulate a programme on the government’s move to privatise education, the CPI leader said.
The government scrapped 4,000 primary schools and proposed to close down 5,100 upper primary schools. It also passed the Private Universities Bill. Intermediate education was already handed over to Narayana and Chaitanya educational institutions, he alleged.
