Special status: Ashok blames Congress

May 09, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:52 am IST - VIZIANAGARAM:

Union Minister for Civil Aviation P. Ashok Gajapathi Raju has said that though everyone in the State has been seeking special category status for Andhra Pradesh, the Centre is unable to announce it because the then Congress-led UPA government did not include it in the A.P. Re-organisation Act.

Speaking to mediapersons at his bungalow, where he formally inaugurated 5KV solar power system here on Sunday, Mr. Ashok said that after bifurcation, Telangana had become a revenue surplus State and Andhra Pradesh a deficit one.

Mr. Ashok said Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley too made a mention of the injustice done to the State by then government and also the State’s revenue deficit on the floor of Parliament. Hence, there was need to work toward achieving special status for the State and also financial support from the Centre.
