Union Minister of State for Science and Technology Y.S. Chowdary on Saturday said the Central government would take a decision on according special category status to Andhra Pradesh by January- end.

Addressing a media conference at the TDP office here, Mr. Chowdary said there was no truth in the Opposition’s charge that the State may be denied the status and grant of incentives.

The Centre was keen on implementing all the promises made by it and the provisions of the AP State Reorganisation Act.

It was working out ways of helping the State and Ministers and MPs like him were pursuing the pending issues with the Union Ministers. These include special incentives to industry and opening of central institutions, he added.

His senior colleague, Dr. Harsh Vardhan too had given an assurance to Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on setting up of science and technology institutions and introducing innovative courses in engineering colleges.
