Assembly Speaker Nadendla Manohar is likely to take a decision on the disqualification petitions pending against 16 rebel Congress MLAs and lone Praja Rajyam member on Friday night.

Bringing the curtains down on the disqualification issue, the Speaker is said to be gearing up to disqualify the rebels sailing with YSR Congress Party president Y. S. Jaganmohan Reddy. Party sources said the Speaker apparently decided to axe them to prevent any bid by the rebels to field a candidate in the Rajya Sabha elections likely next month. Interestingly, the Speaker had met Lok Sabha Speker Meira Kumar at Raj Bhavan on Friday evening before getting ready to pronounce the decision.

Those likely to be disqualified for defying the party whip during the no confidence motion against the government on December 5 last year are: Dharmana Krishnadas (Narsannapet), G. Babu Rao (Payakaraopet), Pilli Subashchandra Bose (Ramachandrapuram), T. Balaraju (Polavaram), M. Sucharita (Prattipadu), P. Ramakrishna Reddy (Macherla), Balineni Srinivas Reddy (Ongole), Mekapati Chandrasekhar Reddy (Udayagiri), B. Gurunatha Reddy (Anantapur).

K. Ramachandra Reddy (Rayadurg), K. Chennakeshava Reddy (Yemmiganur), G. Srikanth Reddy (Rayachoti), K. Srinivasulu (Kodur), A. Amarnatha Reddy (Rajampet), M. Prasada Raju (Narsapur) and Konda Surekha (Parkal). The Praja Rajyam member from Allagadda MLA Shoba Nagi Reddy may also face the axe taking the total number to 17.
