The South Zone Inter-University Volleyball (women) Tournament, organised by Krishna University (KRU), in collaboration with the Association of Indian Universities, New Delhi, will commence at the National College grounds from Thursday.
Speaking to reporters here, KRU In-Charge Vice-Chancellor D. Suryachandra Rao said a total of 55 teams had confirmed their participation.
Arjuna Awardee Mr. Ramana Rao and officials from the Indian Volleyball Association will attend the tourney and extend necessary technical support for the event.
At least 900 players, including those who excelled at the national level, would participate in the tournament.
According to Krishna University authorities, the best four teams selected in the tournament will represent the South Zone in the national level Volleyball Tournament (women) to be held at Kurukshetra University in Haryana from March 15.
Kannur University (Kerala) had lifted the trophy in the South Zone Volleyball Tournament (Men) in 2015.
“A total of six courts have been developed at the National College grounds in accordance with the standards prescribed by the All India Volleyball Association,” KRU Sports Board secretary N. Srinivasa Rao said.
