The sound and light show at the Amba Vilas Palace had been temporarily suspended due to some “technical glitches”. “The show was suspended last month and is expected to begin again shortly,” according sources in the Mysuru Palace Board, the caretaker of the palace.

The 45-minute show in Kannada version was launched four years ago after the project’s yearlong delay.

The project was announced when S.M. Krishna was the Chief Minister but the show took off only after many years for various reasons, including a row over the script.

The Mysore Palace Board launched the show in association with Innovative Lighting System Corporation, which executed the project.

The Palace Board announced its suspension on its websitewww.mysorepalace.gov.in, and said that it will resume soon. The ticket for adults is priced at Rs. 40 and children above seven years is Rs. 25.

The show is between 7 p.m. and 7.45 p.m. during weekdays (barring public holidays). At the end of the show, the palace is lit up for a few minutes. The palace was illuminated on weekends and public holidays, but steps were taken to illuminate the iconic structure even on weekdays for the benefit of tourists. The one-hour illumination on Sundays was eventually cut to 45 minutes to ensure lighting from Monday to Friday. The palace used to glow from 7.40 p.m. to 7.45 p.m. on weekdays after the sound and light show.

The show brings to light the contributions of Wadiyars and traces the history and cultural heritage of Mysuru through narration accompanied by attractive lighting on the palace during the show. The show was suspended immediately after it was launched by the then Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa on January 3, 2009, following a row over the script, lighting and audio of the show. It was re-launched in 2011.Sources said the Palace Board office had been getting calls from the public almost daily inquiring about the recommencement of the show.

“A technical team from Delhi is looking into the glitches. Faults are being identified and corrected,” sources add.
