Sonia feels Telangana MPs blackmailing her: Palvai

April 30, 2012 12:19 pm | Updated November 16, 2021 11:33 pm IST - HYDERABAD:

Newly elected Rajya Sabha member Palvai Goverdhan Reddy on Sunday said the AICC president Sonia Gandhi had taken a serious view of the actions of the Congress MPs from Telangana.

Mr. Goverdhan Reddy quoted the AICC president as telling him that their action inside the Parliament was nothing short of blackmailing when he met her two days ago in New Delhi.

“I totally agree with her views,” he said and faulted the Congress MPs for continuing their protest demanding creation of separate Telangana State. She appeared angry with the eight MPs, who were suspended for stalling the proceedings of the Lok Sabha continuously, he added.

He quoted Ms Gandhi as telling him that there was a system and strategy to present ones views. “There is a procedure to stage protest inside the House. How can they stall the House? Should Congress Government survive or not,” Mr. Goverdhan Reddy remarked quoting the AICC chief. He pointed out that Telangana issue was upper most in the mind of Ms. Gandhi and there was no reason why the Telangana Congress MPs should ‘blackmail' her and the party. He came down heavily on the police particularly the DGP and senior officials. He cited the instance of a theft that had taken place in the house of an ex-MLA and said the Banjara Hills police did not bother to inquire into the incident.
