Six students of Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (KGBV) of Tirumalayapalem were allegedly beaten up by their Social Studies teacher Ganeshwaramma for failing to secure the pass marks in their unit test held on Friday. The six aggrieved schoolgirls have lodged a complaint with the officials concerned on Saturday.

Tension

The incident led to tension late on Saturday evening when activists of the SFI, PDSU and other organisations staged a road blockade in front of the KGBV at Tirumalayapalem demanding action against the “errant” teacher and others responsible for “tormenting” the hapless inmates of the KGBV. They withdrew their stir only after the authorities assured them that the matter would be probed.

Earlier, the girls showed their injuries to Tehsildhar Uma Kumari who visited the school to inquire into the issue. Some of them complained against the mandal education officer concerned accusing him of using indecent language against them.

When contacted, Ms. Uma Kumari said she had reported the matter to the higher authorities.
