In all six candidates were declared elected, unanimously, to the Rajya Sabha in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. Signing the necessary papers, they took the declaration from the Returning Officers here.

In Telangana, it was D. Srinivas and Capt. Laxmikanth Rao, both from the Telangana Rashtra Samithi, while in AP, the break-up was two from the ruling Telugu Desam, and one each from Bharatiya Janata Party and the YSR Congress.

Those who were elected from AP were Y. S. Choudhary and T.G. Venkatesh (TDP), Railway Minister Suresh Prabhakar Prabhu (BJP) and V. Vijay Sai Reddy (YSRCP). Elections for candidates from AP became unanimous following withdrawal of nomination filed by V. Sunanda Reddy, wife of Mr. V. Vijay Sai Reddy.

Between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m., the newly-elected members were in the Council and then met the Returning Officers Raja Sadaram (Telangana Legislative Assembly) and K. Satyanarayana Rao (AP Assembly). They expressed happiness at being elected unanimously and conveyed their gratefulness to their party leaders for giving them the opportunity. Mr. Venkatesh and Mr. Choudhary said they would discharge their duties to the best of their abilities and ensure that the newly-carved out State of AP got the best attention and assistance from the Centre. “I will strive to see that whatever AP has been promised according to the State Re-Organisation Act is achieved,” Mr. Choudary said.
