Six held, 21 kg ganja seized in Kadapa

Kadapa One Town police arrested six matka-beaters and seized 21 kg of ganja worth Rs. 10.50 lakh from them from a car (AP04 AZ 4499) during vehicle checking near Yerramukkapalle in Kadapa town on Monday evening.

A matka-beater Guniguntla Ramaiah, who was banished from Kadapa, his son Guniguntla Rakesh, a matka-beater and rowdy-sheeter Syed Karimullah Basha alias Bijli, matka-beaters of Proddatur Palle Prasant Rao and Talari Vijay Kumar and their relative Dippampati Manohar were arrested, Kadapa DSP E.G. Ashok Kumar told the media in Kadapa.

The speeding car tried to plough into a police party led by Kadapa I Town Circle Inspector K. Ramesh, but police put mobile barricades to stop it, the DSP said. The inmates of the car alighted and tried to escape by pushing aside the police, but were arrested, he added. The accused admitted that they were transporting the ganja from Tuni in East Godavari district to Chennai via Kadapa, Mr. Ashok Kumar said. Besides the ganja, the car belonging to Manohar and Rs. 8,100 were seized and a case was registered under Sections 143, 307, 353 read with Section 34 IPC and Section 8 © read with Section 20 (b) (ii) (C) of The Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985, the DSP added.
