: A pal of gloom descended on Kovvuru in West Godavari district on Sunday, as the news broke that six persons belonged to two families from Kovvuru were killed in a road accident in Bihar in the early hours of the day.
A team of nine persons from Kovvuru left for a pilgrimage in Bihar in a car on April 9. Six of them were killed in a ghastly accident that took place on Mahaneeya Road in Bhagyal district, while three others were critically injured. The deceased were identified as Chagallu village secretary Machavarapu Satyanarayana, 58, his mother Padmavathi, 78, and son Pavan, 23, and retired executive officer from Panchayat Raj at Nidadole Sriram, 65, his wife and sister.
Satyanarayana’s wife and two others in the car were critically injured and were rushed to the local hospital. The accident took place when the group of pilgrims were on their way to Gaya from Bhagyal.
Home Minister N. Chinna Rajappa expressed shock over the incident and spoke to the police officials of Bihar over telephone. He asked the officials to make necessary arrangements to shift the bodies to Kovvuru at the earliest and to provide best possible treatment to the injured.
