The Special Investigation Team (SIT) that is inquiring into the alleged land scam in Visakhapatnam district on Tuesday launched a preliminary inquiry into the reported grabbing of land belonging to the Mansas Trust.

The trust was floated by former MP PVG Raju, father of Union Civil Aviation Minister P. Ashok Gajapathi Raju.

The SIT has taken up the inquiry based on a complaint filed by Ramachandra Mohan, Executive Officer of Simhachalam Devasthanam, holding additional charge as EO of the trust.

The EO alleged that about 315 acres belonging to the trust in the three mandals of Padmanabham, Anandapuram and Bheemunipatnam were transferred to a number of people under 1B in the weblands by tampering the revenue records. The EO filed the complaint about 10 days ago.

It is also learnt that the SIT is in the process of gathering the call data records of Anakapalle MLA Peela Govind Satyanarayana and a few revenue officials.

Sources said the SIT had already acquired some key call recordings between the MLA and the revenue officials.

The Anandapuram police had booked cases of land grabbing against the MLA based on a complaint filed by the tahsildhar after he received details of alleged land grabbing by the MLA from the SIT.

As per the complaint, the MLA and 11 others grabbed land to the extent of 95.89 acres in Anandapuram, a charge denied by the MLA.

The EO also lodged a complaint with the Joint Collector alleging that some persons, claiming to be close associates of two powerful local MLAs, were trying to grab land to the extent of 102 acres belonging to the Kasi Visweswaraswamy Temple of Simhachalam Devasthanam at Gangasani Agraharam in Anandapuram.
