Singapore firms in race for master developer: Iswaran

Swiss Challenge method will be followed in selection, says Naidu. The Seed Development Plan would be submitted by Singapore government by middle of July.

Singapore companies would participate in the bidding process for selection of the master developer for building the new capital city of Amaravathi.

This was stated by Singapore’s Second Minister for Trade and Industry S. Iswaran while addressing a joint press conference with Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu here on Monday. Replying to questions, he said “certainly some of our companies will be interested to participate”.

Mr. Naidu said Swiss Challenge method would be followed in selecting the master developer. Japanese and Chinese companies might also participate. The master plan submitted by the Singapore agencies was “by and large very good” and all the concepts suggested by the government were integrated. The Seed Development Plan would be submitted by Singapore government by middle of July.

The Capital region would be serving the needs of about 13 million people in the coming years. He said commercial and residential land would be given to farmers who parted with their lands. Of the 33,000 acres taken under land pooling, 17,000 acres was already handed over to the authorities and annuity payment was made.

The Chief Minister said Amaravathi would be a “beautiful city” and would have world class infrastructure. “ It will be one of the best cities of this century”, he added.

Mr. Naidu said the Bhoomi Puja would be performed on June 6 and the foundation stone would be laid on Vijayadasami day. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and dignitaries from Singapore would be invited for the foundation stone.

Emphasising that those who gave land should benefit, he said the government has also decided to give monthly pension of Rs.2,500 per family of each labourer and impart skills to labourers to make them employable.

The Chief Minister reiterated that the Centre should extend help to Andhra Pradesh financially and through various policies till a level-playing field was achieved. The Centre has released Rs.1,500 crore towards new Capital construction. “We are expecting more support from Central Government”, he added.

Later, an MoU was signed between Singapore Cooperation Enterprise and Swachi Andhra Corporation to jointly develop a framework for an integrated solid waste management master plan for A.P.
