The rain in Anantapur town came as a relief to people, who were reeling from the searing heat and soaring temperatures since over a month.
The light showers on Wednesday, some say, might have been the primary contributors to the increased voting recorded in the district besides Anantapur town.
Besides the arrangements made by officials at polling stations to facilitate quick voting, the cool weather and an overcast sky certainly spurred voters to come out in good numbers, said Arun Kumar, a polling agent of the YSRC.
While there was just a drizzle, Anantapur town received a rainfall for well over 20 minutes, treating people to the smell of wet earth even as many were caught off guard by the rain. Meanwhile, the sky remained cloudy for the second day in a row today making for hectic activity, primarily at banks, which were closed on Wednesday on account of polling. The rains also rekindled hopes of further showers in the next few days and improvement in groundwater levels at some places in the district.
