Set up steel plant in Khammam : TRS

April 20, 2013 12:50 pm | Updated November 28, 2021 09:17 pm IST - HYDERABAD:

Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) and Telangana Joint Action Committee (T-JAC) have demanded that the State government put a condition on Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited (RINL) to set up an integrated steel plant in Khammam district to utilise the iron ore extracted from 5,342-hectare mining area allotted to it in three Telangana districts.

Former MP of TRS B. Vinod Kumar said the statement issued from the Chief Minister’s Office on April 17 lacked clarity as to whether a plant would be set up in Khammam district or the mineral extracted would be moved to the Visakhapatnam steel plant of RINL.

T-JAC chairman M. Kodandaram said that a clear assurance must be taken from RINL as a steel plant in Khammam would provide employment to the region’s people.

Telangana region’s mineral wealth such as coal is being fed to generate power in other regions, even as farmers and people are forced to suffer heavy power cuts here, he noted.
