Serial killer Tadiparti Rama Rao escaped from the sub-jail at Pedapadu near here on Friday afternoon. The prisoners were brought out for lunch around 11.30 a.m. and at the time of sending them back to the cells at 1.30 p.m. it was found that he had escaped.
Rama Rao, involved in 13 murders, escaped from Nuzvid jail in 2005 where he was a life convict in 2005. He was involved in the serial killings at Rudrakshapalli in Khammam district.
Jail staff said that he used an iron rod and jumped over the 21-foot wall. He also tied pieces of bedsheet given to him and his lungi together and used them to escape. However, the version was being investigated into as there was no sign of such an escape attempt. Superintendent of Police Sanjay Kumar Jain said teams were formed to search for Rama Rao. After his escape from Nuzvid jail, Rama Rao was staying near Budumuru in Srikakulam district. Police found that he was indulging in thefts in Srikakulam and Vizianagaram districts. He was arrested by the Srikakulam CCS police in October, 2009, and was lodged in the sub-jail as an undertrial. DSP Panasa Reddy is overseeing the investigation into the escape.
