‘Separate exam bane for MBBS aspirants from poor families’

April 27, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:50 am IST - NELLORE:

Taking strong exception to the government move of allowing private medical college managements to conduct separate entrance exam for filling up B category seats, Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad on Sunday said that it was against the interests of poor students.

In a statement here, Dr. Subram, convener of Mede Vision committee of the ABVP, deplored that under the new system being adopted in both AP and Telangana, poor and meritorious students would stand no chance to get admission to the 50 per cent of the MBBS and BDS seats from this year.

Terming the decision as a plan to keep poor students away from majority of the seats, Dr. Subram said Eamcet score would be considered for the selection of 50 per cent of the total seats, while the remaining would be determined based on the separate test conducted by private colleges.

The fee for B category seats was between Rs. 2.5 lakh to Rs. 3.5 lakh in Tamil Nadu and Karnataka, while it was very high in A.P. and Telangana, he pointed out.
