A 60 MW thermal power plant set up by Steel Exchange India Limited (SEIL) near its steel plant at Sreerampuram near here went on stream on Sunday.
An investment of Rs. 315 crore was made in the establishment of the plant through a special purpose vehicle Simhadri Power Limited.
SEIL, which owns a 0.35 million tonne steel plant and has plans to increase its capacity to one million tonne by 2020, will meet its requirement of power from its captive power plant.
The plant uses waste heat from the exhaust gases of 2x350 tonnes per day DRI kilns, reject coal fines, char and balance ROM coal as fuel to generate steam.
The surplus power will be supplied to the AP grid under short-term open access policy. The plant will make use of thermal systems to generate steam and feed it to 2x30 Siemens steam turbines.
The plant is equipped with air-cooled condensers of GEI make to avoid huge water consumption. Ash transfer and coal conveying system with dust control and dust suppression equipment are installed as an environment-friendly measure, SEIL Managing Director B. Satish Kumar said after inauguration of Circulating Fluidised Bed Combustion (CFBC) boiler by Union Minister of State for Commerce & Industry D. Purandeswari.
While Union Minister of State for Coal Pratik Prakashbapu Patil inaugurated the coal handling plant, PCC president and Transport Minister Botcha Satyanarayana and Vizianagaram MP B. Jhansilakshmi respectively declared turbo generators No. 1 and 2 open.
