The ongoing agitation in Seemandhra against the Congress Working Committee’s decision to bifurcate Andhra Pradesh will continue till October 15, after which the situation will be reviewed, A.P. Non-Gazetted Officers’ Association president P. Ashok Babu, announced here on Monday.
From October 2 to 11, a slew of programmes have been lined up to highlight the sentiments of people in Seemandhra and their demand, desire for a unified State.
They will begin with peace rallies in the mandal and district headquarters in all the 13 districts in coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema regions.
Mr. Ashok Babu announced the programmes to presspersons at the end of a day-long meeting of office-bearers of nearly 150-odd associations representing employees in various State government departments, the APSRTC, teachers and pensioners.
On October 3 & 4, agitators will squat outside the residence of MPs and practically live on the road in a bid to pressurise the elected representatives to quit their positions and join the struggle against bifurcation.
On October 5 & 6, they will prevent private buses from operating and also ensure that petrol filling stations remain closed for the 48-hour period.
For 12 hours from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. on October 5, they will participate in a road blockade programme. On October 7 & 8, they will picket Central government offices, including banks.
District-wise delegations will go to New Delhi on October 9, 10 & 11 and meet several leaders, said Mr. Ashok Babu.
In reply to a question, he said that while the Samaikyandhra agitation was being spearheaded by the APNGOs Association, the stir was being conducted under the banner of Save United A.P. Forum.
APNGOs Association office-bearers including General Secretary N. Chandrasekhar Reddy and its Hyderabad Unit president P.V.V. Satyanarayana said that at the district-level, they were working out a plan to get monetary assistance to employees in the form of personal loans.
