Congress MPs belonging to Seemandhra region met AICC general secretary Digvijay Singh complaining against the threats being held out by the Telangana leaders, including own party men to disrupt the APNGOs ‘Save Andhra Pradesh’ meeting in the city on Saturday.
Amid raging war of words over the meeting, Congress MPs – Vundavalli Arun Kumar, K.V.P. Ramachandra Rao, Lagadapati Rajagopal, A. Saipratap, Ananta Venkatarami Reddy and G.V. Harsha Kumar -- met Mr. Singh and handed over a letter to him.
They said that while the APNGOs requested for permission to hold a meeting, some ‘radical divisive’ organisations including TRS too applied for similar meeting on the same day.
Object to statements
They objected to the statements that the meeting would not be allowed. They said the most unfortunate part was the support extended by Ministers and MPs from Telangana.
They said the same leaders had assured the general public and the party high command that they would stand by people of all regions in protecting their democratic right in the divided State. The MPs warned that the same Congress leaders had not condemned “Telanganawala Jago, Andhrawala Bhago’ slogan coined by the TRS as they may borrow the same lines for electoral gains in a divided State.
In a related development, Panchayat Raj Minister K.Jana Reddy said there was no need for emotions to run high on the eve of the ‘Save Andhra Pradesh’ rally. He hoped that the meeting would be conducted in a peaceful manner.
