Taking their battle against bifurcation of the state to New Delhi, Congress Ministers and elected representatives from Seemandhra have decided to stage a day-long protest demonstration at Jantar Mantar on Tuesday.

A large contingent of Ministers, MLAs, MLCs and party seniors from Seemandhra has been asked to assemble in Delhi by Monday evening. Facing the wrath of the people in the region, the leaders have decided to highlight their opposition to bifurcation, in the national capital. Minister for School Education S. Sailajanath said a large number of Seemandhra leaders would participate in the dharna reflecting the overwhelming sentiment of the people of the region to remain united.

Sources said the Seemandhra leaders may pay courtesy call on the senior leaders in Delhi. “We will certainly apprise them about the public anger. We will meet the A.K. Antony Committee in Hyderabad as and when it comes here. The concerns raised by Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy will certainly find mention in the memorandum, which we will submit to the committee,” a key member of the AP Congress Legislators Forum said.

Congress leaders admitted that it was becoming increasingly difficult for them to tour the Seemandhra region after the announcement on bifurcation. “People’s anger is directed at the Congress. The situation is likely to deteriorate further as the agitators are not able to digest the decision ,” a senior Congress Minister said.

“People want nothing short of united Andhra Pradesh.

The attitude of some MPs and Union Ministers, who refused to resign their posts, has only infuriated them further,” a Congress leader told The Hindu on Sunday after dropping plans to visit his constituency.
