SEC directive to officials on MPP, ZPP polls

July 07, 2014 10:39 pm | Updated November 16, 2021 07:04 pm IST - HYDERABAD:

The State Election Commission (SEC) on Monday directed Collectors and district election authorities and SPs in Krishna, West Godavari, Guntur and Prakasam districts to conduct indirect elections to four Mandal Praja Parishads and two Zilla Praja Parishads on July 13 and 14, as the case may be.

An SEC circular said the commission had taken a serious view of instances where indirect elections held on July 4 in MPPs and on July 5 in ZPPs were disrupted. Altercations between members, commotion, disturbances and presiding officers being obstructed from discharging their duties were witnessed on the said days.

The SEC Secretary asked the Collectors and district election authorities concerned to identify those involved and launch prosecution by filing criminal cases against them under Sections 186, 187 and 189 of the Indian Penal Code. He wanted the officers to send compliance reports to the SEC before July 11.
