SCS: Lawyers in Kurnool to boycott courts

Arrest of leaders of Opposition parties, rallies, and demonstrations marked bandh seeking Special Category Status to Andhra Pradesh on Tuesday.

YSRC’s Panyam MLA G. Charitha Reddy, district president G. Venkata Reddy, Kurnool constituency in charge Hafiz Khan, CPI(M) State Committee member T. Shadrak, district secretary K. Prabhakar Reddy, CPI district secretary K. Ramanjaneyulu, CPI(ML- New Democracy) leader Narasimhulu, and Forward Bloc leader Chakravarthi were arrested near RTC bus stand and lodged in the II Town Police Station.Kurnool Bar Association president K. Omkar, secretary K. Kumar, and advocates boycotted courts, took out a motorcycle rally, and held a demonstration at the Collectorate. The association decided to boycott the district courts and the 14 magistrate courts in the district for four days seeking SCS and establishment of the High Court in Kurnool, Mr. Kumar said.

Police arrested Kadapa MLA S.B. Amjad Basha, Mayor K. Suresh Babu, and YSRC activists when they staged a demonstration in front of the RTC bus stand.

Police also arrested YSRC MLA Rachamallu Prasada Reddy near the RTC bus stand at Proddatur. YSRC MLA G. Srikanth Reddy and party men staged a dharna in front of Rayachoti bus depot. MLA K. Srinivasulu led a protest in Railway Kodur.

Staff Reporter in Srikakulam writes: In all 1,050 activists of the YSRC, CPI, and CPI(M) were arrested.
