Given the disruption of work in courts for the last one month due to the Telangana agitation and the delay in the Satyam scam case trial proceedings, the Central Bureau of Investigation has requested the High Court for an alternative location, free from disturbances.
“We have written to the High Court couple of days ago to shift the proceedings of Satyam case to Cherlapally open air jail, which has a court hall, or any other place with suitable facilities,” said CBI Joint Director V. V. Lakshminarayana speaking to The Hindu on the sidelines of a memorial lecture at the National Police Academy, here on Tuesday.
Replying to a query, the CBI official said as many as 226 witnesses, including 15 investigating officers, have been produced in the court and cross examination by the defence as per section 313 of CrPC was to be completed.
It is learnt that the trial has lost nearly 50 working days on account of various disturbances, boycott of courts in the last one year.
Meanwhile, the CBI is confident of filing the charge sheet within the stipulated period in the illegal mining case in which Gali Janardhana Reddy, former Karnataka Minister and his brother-in-law, Srinivas Reddy, are the main accused.
As per law, the agency has to file a charge sheet in a case within 90 days from a person's arrest related that particular case. “The clock starts from the day we arrest a person,” official sources said.
The names of two more IAS officers, former Mining Secretary Y. Srilakshmi and former Director of Mines and Geology Department V. D. Rajagopal, have been added to the list of accused in the illegal mining case and the role of some more public servants is being investigated.
The CBI had collected all the documents related to the scam way back in 2009 leaving no scope for any tampering of evidence, sources said.
Probe into YS Jaganmohan Reddy's alleged illegal assets was on and the investigating agency was in the process of collecting more evidence.
