It was a rare opportunity for the people of remote Budavada village as a group of like-minded doctors descended on their village to offer them health check up free of cost on Monday.
Obesity-fuelled diseases like diabetes and hypertension were on the rise even in villages and largely went undetected till a major health problem surfaced to the fore and proved to be fatal, lamented Dr.B.Ch.Garataiah, whose B. Veeraragavaiah and Lakshmikanthamma Trust has taken the initiative to cover maximum number of people in the Addanki Assembly constituency over a period of six months. ''On a saturation basis, we will cover one village before going to the next one'', Dr Garataiah said after the health camp was declared open by Praja Natya Mandali honorary State president Nalluri Venateswarulu and Indian Medical Association Ongole chapter president and Indian Red Cross Society Prakasam district secretary Ch.Chalamaiah. Noted diabetologists Malela Srinivasa Rao, Pammidi Venkateswarulu and Bodepudi Suresh, dermatologist M.Nagi Reddy were among the doctors who tested the patients who anxiously waited in a long queue to know their health profile.
Those needing further medical care were provided a health card for free medicine and follow-up treatment, added Dr Garataiah.
A mobile lab was inaugurated by J Ranga Rao, the Operational Director of NGO ASSIST on the occasion.
