Samaikyandhra students staged a novel protest here on Saturday when they bathed cattle in the Nellore Swarnala Cheruvu near Bara Shahid Dargah to express their resentment against the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh.
Stating that students and the young generation would have no future, the Samaikya leaders made a strong plea for withdrawal of the statement issued by the Congress Working Committee with regard to the division of the State.
They asserted that the agitation against bifurcation would be continued and they would extend support to striking employees and teachers.
Telugu Mahila district president Anchala Vani, who also took part in the protest, said that it was unfortunate that the Central government did not make any effort to solve the problem of Seemandhra region even though general life remained paralysed ever since the agitation broke out 60 days ago. At the ‘Mahila Deeksha’ being held at VRC Centre, Muslim women took part in a relay hunger strike in large numbers. The minority leaders raised slogans in support of a united AP.
Addressing the women’s gathering there, Nellore Rural MLA Anam Vivekananda Reddy said that it was not easy to divide a peaceful State without the consent of all sections of people spread over different regions. He asserted that the people of Seemandhra would relent only when there was a positive statement in favour of the State’s integration.
Several ‘karate’ martial arts trainees held a special demonstration at VRC Centre to express their solidarity to the agitation. The stunts performed by the specialists drew the attention of the crowd.
The Vikrama Simhapuri University JAC organised a demonstration on GT Road when employees and students wore masks to register their protest. The Samaikya Intermediate Students JAC held a meeting of representatives of 13 districts in Seemandhra here. JAC chairman Ravi said that the united AP agitation would continue till their goal was achieved and all support would be given to the striking NGOs.
