Agricultural scientists have appealed to the educated youth to take up agriculture, which is playing a vital role in the economic growth of the country. When there is no agriculture, there is no other culture, said the speakers.
Young farmers should focus on organic and environment-friendly crops and produce processed food and byproducts, which are have a great demand in the market, said the researchers.
Farmers from the neighbouring districts and agro scientists from different places discussed diversified crops, increasing productivity, sustainable technologies, agro processing, change in consumer preferences, less use of chemical fertilizer, extension of subsidies for farming and other issues at the ‘State-Level Yuva Rythula Sadassu’ organised by the CPI and Andhra Pradesh Rythu Sangam, in Guntur on Monday.
Huge lossesAddressing the farmers, noted agricultural scientist Alapati Satyanarayana said the farmers were suffering huge losses due to increased investment, poor subsidies and marketing facilities, calamities, lower prices and underdevelopment in villages. That is why youth are not showing interest in farming.
