The Regional Science Centre (RSC) of A.P. Council of Science and Technology (APCOST) will set up a 3-Dimensional Theatre on the banks of Krishna river.
The Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India, has sanctioned the 3D theatre estimated at a cost of about Rs.60 lakh. The RSC officials are making efforts to complete the project with Rs.30 lakh more.
The APCOST officials made a study on feasibility of setting up the theatre by visiting the science centres at Gora, Bangalore and Tirupati. The project has been allotted by Ministry of Earth Sciences, said the RSC In-Charge Officer J. Dhilleswara Rao.
“The 60-seating capacity theatre would be taken up with the help of National Council of Science Museum (NCSM), Kolkata. Pictures on discoveries, achievements, adventures and developments in science and technology would be screened for students in the theatre”, said Mr. Rao.
RSC is having five acres land on river Krishna bank, and the theatre would be constructed in one acre. Two projectors, with 9/12 metres screen, sound and lighting system would be provided for the theatre.
In addition to the existing staff, one supervisor, operator and other technical and class IV staff would be allotted for maintenance of the 3D theatre.
“We are receiving good cooperation Vijayawada Municipal Corporation and District Education Department for organising science tours and implementation of other programmes”.
Donors and philanthropists are requested to donate the amount for setting up the project, which is very useful for school and college students, said the RSC in-charge officer.
