Rs. 9.46 cr. approved for Satyasai water schemes

The Satyasai Water Supply Board has approved Rs. 9.46 crore for carrying out repairs and maintenance of the Satyasai water works covering 212 habitations in agency area.

In the board meeting held at the Collectorate on Friday under the chairmanship of Collector Neetu Prasad, the board resolved to entrust the total control of the water scheme to RWS department on behalf of the Zillla Parishad which is paying all maintenance costs of the project. It was decided to invoke provisions under the Essential Services Maintenance Act to avoid strikes by staff.

The board decided to pay Rs. 5 crore towards the pending dues constituting 30 per cent share of operation and maintenance costs. In this connection, Ms. Neetu Prasad said the project was being maintained by the government and any strikes by the employees of the L and T contractor would affect water supply in the habitations. ZP Chairperson N. Rambabu said the power tariff to the water supply schemes was heavy and the Energy Department should consider reducing the cost in the public interest.

The Collector reviewed functioning of the water supply schemes and progress of ongoing schemes in the district. There were 38 central water supply schemes in the district and various projects were in progress. She asked the RWS officials to expedite the works. 250 RO plants targeted

While reviewing the progress of the RO plants under NTR Sujala scheme, the Collector said it was targeted to establish 250 RO plants in the district and so far, 131 RO plants -116 in rural and 15 in urban areas – had been set up
