The Kuppam circle police on Monday warned the rowdy-sheeters to strictly desist from interfering in making land settlements and intimidating the public. On the instructions of DIG (Anantapur) Prabhakar Rao and Chittoor SP S.V. Rajasekhar Babu, a special counselling was arranged for as many as 56 notified rowdy-sheeters from Kuppam, Ramakuppam, Shantipuram, Gudupalle and V.Kota mandals at Kuppam.
Circle Inspector (Kuppam) M. Rajasekhar said that in recent months, there had been a growing trend in rowdy-sheeters involving in land disputes, and the incidents taking ugly turns with physical assaults and criminal cases. In order to prevent this disturbing scenario, particularly in the rural areas, the rowdy-sheeters were given a warning to mend their ways. He said that those who violate the instructions would be booked under the PD Act, and would even face banishment from the villages.
“We have divided them into four categories based on the intensity of their crimes. The notorious elements were instructed to visit the police stations of their respective mandals, and compulsorily observe the stricture of signing the registers once in a week, and inform the police in case of their moving out of their places,” he said.
The official said that by curbing the menace of rowdy-sheeters, the law and order could be implemented in an effective manner, and the public could live in peace, and impose confidence in the police.
“Our prime objective behind counselling is to bring change in the mindset of rowdy-sheeters, and make them return to normal life. Based on their behavioural change, steps will be initiated to remove those who showed signs of moving away from violent ways from the list of rowdy-sheeters,” he said.
Apart from rowdy-sheeters, the Kuppam police would also arrange counselling to those those involved in serious crimes such as murder, rape and physical assaults.
