It’s time for role reversal for teachers in government primary schools. If all goes as per the plan of the Department of Primary and Secondary Education, very soon teachers will be grilled and may have to take a test on the subject they are teaching.

Department sources said the plan was to assess and evaluate teachers’ understanding of the subject they were teaching. The plan was mooted at a meeting of senior officials of the department recently. Sources said the test would help evaluate teachers’ strengths and weakness. They said the results of the test would form the basis for teacher training programmes.

“Many teachers complain that teacher training programmes are repetitive This test will help in developing the strategy and understanding teachers’ needs,” a senior official said.

This test will help in developing strategy for teacher training programmes and understanding teachers’ needs.
