Roja suspended for a year from Assembly

A shocked Ms. Roja however gathered her wits and with the help of party seniors pointed out to the rule book saying the Speaker had the powers to suspend any member only for the remaining duration of the session.

“Anything more, he has to intimate the member and refer the matter to the Privileges Committee. In my case there was no such thing,” she fumed, addressing the media near the Osmania Gate at the media entrance. The only precedence of a member being suspended for more than the remaining duration of the session is when Karanam Balaram Krishnamurthy (Ongole) was suspended for six months for his ‘objectionable comments’ directed at the then Speaker K.R. Suresh Reddy.

‘We will fight it out’

Referring to the precedent, Ms. Roja said the party would deal with the matter through appropriate means.
