YSR Congress MLA R.K. Roja on Saturday staged a protest in front of the Circle Inspector's office at Puttur, seeking his suspension, alleging that he had deliberately filed the SC/ST atrocities case against her without verifying the facts. It may be noted here that the Puttur police on Friday night registered the case against the MLA based on complaint from the TDP cadres.

Roja, accompanied by supporters and party workers, squatted in front of the CI's office, raising slogans against the official and TDP government. Soon, the Telugu Desam cadres led by local leaders stormed the CI office and staged a counter dharna, raising slogans against Ms Roja and seeking her immediate arrest for ‘humiliating dalits’. However, Roja fainted at the spot, and was rushed to the area hospital at Puttur, where she was administered fluids. On medical advice, her supporters took Ms Roja to SVIMS at Tirupati. Meanwhile, the Puttur police said Ms. Roja will be arrested after the appointment of the inquiry officer into the case booked against her under the SC/ST Atrocities Act.

Effigy burnt

Dalit leaders in TDP burnt an effigy of Ms. Roja at Ambedkar statue near Kadapa RTC bus stand, demanding her arrest as a sequel to certain remarks made against Dalits.
