Robbers murdered a private security guard of State Bank of India’s ATM centre at DRDL quarters on Santoshnagar-Chandrayanagutta main road in the wee hours of Sunday here and tried to loot the centre.

The guard was identified as Mallesh. The 55-year-old unarmed guard was on night duty when a gang of robbers attacked him with iron rods and knives killed him and tried in vain to break open the ATM machine, the Kanchanbagh police said. Morning walkers saw the guard lying dead and informed the police.

The CLUES team and sniffer dogs were pressed into service to examine the crime scene looking out for leads.
