Girl students carry out ‘Varalakshmi pooja’ on road protesting State division
Instead of performing the auspicious ‘Varalakshmi pooja’ at a temple during this ‘Sravana Sukravaram’, the girls took to roads and carried out the pooja in front of the public on Friday. It was indeed a protest with a difference opposing State bifurcation move.
The members of Samaikyandhra Vidyardhi JAC Girls’ Wing took part in the pooja held at Atmakur bus stand. A large number of people passing by the road stopped to witness the unique protest by the students.
Later, the girls raised slogans against the UPA government’s decision to divide the State. They expressed concern that the youth of coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema regions would lose countless job opportunities if they had to be separated from the fast growing city of Hyderabad.
Samaikyandhra JAC convener Krishna Yadav said that there was no question of the students going easy on the bifurcation issue till the Central government withdraws its decision.
Samaikyandhra Rashtra Parirakshana Vedika, APNGOs’ Association and the students held a relay hunger camp at NGO Home in continuation of the ongoing agitation.
